Did you know...?

No two samples of honey are identical

Each is an individual natural substance. Not only is it affected by the species of flower the bees have visited, but each colony produces unique honey. There are even variations created by the time of day and year when the nectar was collected.

The bees need to visit many flowers to collect enough nectar to produce a quantity of honey. They store this in the hive or nest for use as food when they are unable to forage for fresh nectar. Beekeepers harvest surplus honey to sell it. Honey is not only used as a spread, on cereal or in drinks but can be used in many forms of cooking.

Honey has other less familiar uses too. It is anti-bacterial and can be used for wound dressings to keep them sterile and promote healing. It is widely reputed that local honey is beneficial for hay fever sufferers and certainly many people feel an improvement from ingesting honey on a daily basis throughout the problem season.

Our honey

We produce and sell honey made from the nectar that our bees have collected from a wide range of flowers in our area. The types vary throughout the year so please ask what is available. Honey is supplied bottled in jars or as comb honey just as it is produced by the bees. Try them to discover your favourite.

Because the flowers change through the season, so does the honey. Early season jars tend to be lighter and set faster; later in the year the colour and flavour deepen. It is worth ringing before you visit so we can tell you what has just come off the hives.

Bottling and selling your own honey

If you are producing more honey than your household can eat, we stock everything you need to get it into jars properly: straining cloths and conical strainers, settling tanks with honey valves, buckets, creamers, hexagon and round jars with lids, cut comb containers and a full range of printed and personalised labels.
